Q:Why does my scooter/chair not move?

  • There are several possibilities which may cause the scooter/chair transmission system to stop working.

    The following steps should be taken to identify if the problem is in the controller or some other part of the system.
    NOTE: Turn on key before beginning any diagnostics.

  • If the Self Diagnostic Warning Light if OFF:

    Check that the battery power supply level is correct and that the batteries have no problems.

  • If the Self Diagnostic Warning Light is FLASHING:

    See FAQ Q2 for more details.

  • If the Self Diagnostic Warning Light is permanently ON:

    This could indicate a problem with the potentiometer, motor, brake or any connecting wiring. Please contact your authorized dealer.

Q:What should I do if the Self Diagnostic Warning Light is flashing?

Any fault condition on the controller will cause this. Flashing occurs in bursts, separated by a 2 second pause. The number of flashes in each burst is referred to as the Flash Code and indicates the nature of the individua l fault. Faults that would affect the safety of the rider will cause the system to stop, whilst less critical ones will be indicated but allow the scooter/chair to continue driving. Some faults will automatically clear when they are removed, in which case the Self Diagnostic Warning Light will become steady and the system will operate as normal. Other faults are latched and must be cleared by turning the system off, waiting for 2 seconds, and then turning it back on again.

1 Battery needs recharging The battery voltage has dropped below 23.3V in neutral. Recharge the batteries soon.
2 Battery voltage too low The battery voltage has dropped to 16.5V. Check the battery condition and the connections.
3 Battery voltage too high The battery voltage is greater than 32V. Check the battery condition and the connections. Suspect a charger malfunction. For a temporary solution, turn on the lighting system for a while in order to lower the battery voltage.
4 Current limit time out The controller has detected a shorted motor. Check the loom for shorts and check the motor. Contact your authorized dealer.
5 Free Wheeling Lever fault Check the Free Wheeler Lever connections, the condition of the motor and loom(s). Contact your authorized dealer.
6 Thumb control levers out of neutral Return Thumb Control Levers to of neutral neutral and reset system. Contact your authorized dealer to readjust the wigwag to neutral if necessary.
7 Thumb control levers fault Check thumb control levers wiring for open or short circuits and thumb control levers set-up. Contact your authorized dealer.
8 Motor volts error Contact your authorized dealer.
9 Other internal errors Contact your authorized dealer.

0 The On status / Power Reserve Indicator light does not light up when the controller is switched on. ●Check that the battery connector to the controller is securely plugged into the connector from the battery.
●Check the batteries are connected correctly (check the battery terminals).
●Check the condition of the batteries.
●Check the battery supply fuse or circuit breaker.
●If the fuse has blown check for wiring faults.
1 Low battery voltage fault ●Check that the battery connector to the controller is securely plugged into the connector from the battery and is in a good condition (free from corrosion).
●Check that the battery terminals are tight and in good condition.
●Check that the batteries are not at the end of their life.
●Check the condition of the batteries.
2 High battery voltage fault Check the battery charger - is it overcharging ?
3 Left motor (or connection) fault ●Check the left and right motor/Free Wheeling Lever connectors are securely plugged in.
●Check the contacts in the left & right motor connectors for corrosion or damage.
●Contact your authorized dealer to check the left and right motors, resistance of the motor and controller.
4 Right motor (or connection) fault. As above.
5 Left or right free wheeling lever (or connection) fault. ●Check the free wheeling Lever connectors are securely plugged in.
●Check the contacts in the connectors for corrosion or damage.
●Contact your authorized dealer to check the condition of Free WheelingLever.
6 Controller fault. Contact your authorized dealer.
7 Motor stalled or joystick out of neutral time out. ●Check joystick is released and in neutral when controller is switched on.
●Check Power Chair is able to move and is not blocked by an obstacle.
●Check motors and gearboxes are OK by releasing the Free Wheeling Levers, deflecting the joystick forward and observing the levers to see if both left and right wheels turn.

Q:Why does my scooter/chair stop after a few minutes driving?

  • Check the Power Reserve Indicator light to see if the batteries need to be recharged.

  • The scooter/chair may be overloaded. Check the weight on the scooter/chair to ensure it is not over 135kg.
    Press the circuit breaker and try the scooter/chair again.

  • Check if the Self Diagnostic Warning light is flashing. Please refer to FAQ Q2 for more details.

Q:Why can my scooter/chair not be run at maximum speed?

Check the battery condition from the Power Reserve Indicator lights. It they are lit in only the red or red and yellow zones, you should plan to recharge the batteries very soon.

  • If the batteries have been used for over 12 months, you should consider replacing them.

  • Check the motor brushes for abrasion. Replace with new brushes.

  • If the temperature of the motor or controller feels hot, contact your authorized dealer.

Q:Why does my scooter/chair not run smoothly?

For scooter:

  • Check the motor brushes are not abrasion.

  • Check that the condition of the batteries is OK from the Power Reserve Indicator lights. It can cause a problem.

  • if the lights are extinguished quickly while diving. It is recommended to replace the batteries.

If the scooter is surging while driving or the Speed Dial is not working properly, contact your authorized dealer to replace the potentiometer with a new one.

For Pwoer chair:

  • Check the motors and gearboxes are OK by releasing the Free Wheeling Levers, deflecting the joystick forward and observe the levers to see if both left and right wheels turn.

  • Check that both Free Wheeling Levers are engaged. With the controller off, push or pull the chair to ensure both left and right wheels do not free wheel.

  • Check if one park brake is dragging. Does one or both park brakes get hot after driving (they should be able to be touched without any discomfort)?

Q:Why cannot I recharge my batteries?

When you recharge your batteries and the Right Battery Charger Light flashes green for over 40 minutes, this indicates abnormal charging has occurred. You should check that...

  • The battery charger is plugged in and switched on.

  • The charger is plugged into a working power source.

  • The charger is the correct type.

  • The charger fuse has not burnt out.

Note: Disconnect the charger from both the mains socket and battery charger socket before checking the fuse.

  • The scooter is turned off.

  • If none of these is a problem, contact your authorized dealer.

Q:How can I ensure a maximum of battery life?

  • Fully charge batteries at least once a month, or more if your use your scooter regularly. Charge after each trip exceeding 5km/3 miles.

  • If storing your scooter for some time (1 month or more), make sure that the batteries are fully charged and, on returning, charge them again before using scooter.

  • Batteries will only give maximum performance after the scooter has been used and the batteries have been recharged up to 10 times - it's a bit like running-in a new car.

Q:How should I properly maintain my scooter/chair?

All technical maintenance and repairs should be done by an authorized dealer. The following require periodic inspection...

  • Tire Pressure (for air-filled tires only)

    The condition of the tires and maintaining the specified tire pressures not only influence tire life, but also road safety to a considerable extent. Incorrect pressures are often a cause of tire problems and could result in an accident. The recommended tire pressure is 35lbs.

  • Tire Tread-Tire Damage

    Inspect the tires frequently for damage, the presence of foreign bodies, unusual wear and sufficient tread depth (which should not drop below 1mm/0.04i if possible).

  • Front Caster Wheels (for Power Chair only)

    If badly worn, replacement is recommended.

  • Electrical Connections

    The battery terminals and all plug connectors need to be firmly attached. If battery terminals are corroded, please contact your authorized dealer for replacement.

  • Hardware

    Ensure all fasteners are present and secure. Replace any which are missing and lighten loose ones.

  • Seat Towers

    The seat should remove easily. If it does not, check that the locking levers in the seat release mechanism are operating correctly. Clean the seat towers, but do not lubricate.
